Developmental Editor – Digital Publications – American Academy of Pediatrics

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, is seeking a detail oriented developmental editor to develop, review, and manage content for AAP Publishing’s digital products and publications. Some of our digital products include the AAP’s Point-of-Care Solutions websites (such as Pediatric Care Online and Red Book Online), our suite of mobile apps for parents and professionals, and the Common Pediatric Medical Procedures video series.

The “Digital Solutions Editor” will be responsible for developing concepts and content for AAP mobile apps platforms, Web sites, video resources, visual image databases, eBooks, Webinars, and social media outlets. Working with high level professionals including internal staff, external vendors, and medical editors, this position will help manage the overall direction of our digital AAP publication platforms. This position will look at our content and decide the best way to deliver it to our varied audiences via digital products. Your creative problem solving skills will be utilized to develop proposals for new digital publications and products that complement and supplement existing product lines.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or communications, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required. Some coursework in science, medicine, and/or or health preferred. Five to seven years’ experience in writing, editing, acquisitions, and/or electronic publishing required. Some experience with mobile app and Web site development required. Knowledge of medical terminology, as well as familiarity with current print and electronic publishing processes and technologies, including working with editors and negotiating publishing contracts essential. Experience with professional medical or trade publisher and author acquisitions highly desirable. Candidates must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously; some travel and weekend work may be required.
