Editor, HealthyChildren.org en Español

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, has an opportunity managing the content and editorial development of the Academy’s HealthyChildren.org en Español website. This site provides up-to-the-minute pediatric health information created to educate parents on a variety of topics, such as car seat safety, nutrition, childhood physical activity, and safety standards. In addition, this is a revenue generating site with an aggressive business plan.
The Editor will be responsible for implementing the editorial plan, writing and developing new content; maintaining site maps, editorial calendars, image gallery and other databases necessary for the functionality of the site. This position will work with Medical Editors and other editorial staff as well as dedicated technical reviewers in order to execute content updates and enhance parent and AAP member connections.
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelors degree in English, journalism or communications, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. Three to five years working on consumer health information/patient education, with at least 2 years of experience directed towards Spanish-speaking audiences required. Experience maintaining website content and functionality required (developing, writing, and editing content, ensuring adherence to website style guidelines, and analyzing site traffic). Must be fluent in Spanish, both oral and written, and able to translate from English to Spanish and vice versa.
Candidates must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and be familiar with medical terminology. Familiarity with electronic publishing processes and technologies, and experience collaborating with authors and medical professionals highly desirable. Some travel and weekend work may be required.
