Editor (Web Content for AAP.org) – American Academy of Pediatrics

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, has an opportunity for a creative and collaborative professional interested in managing the content and editorial development of the Academy’s main public facing website: AAP.org.

AAP.org is a resource for over 64,000 pediatricians who are members of our organization, as well as other health care professionals, the media and others interested in children’s health. The Editor of this site will need to work closely with all levels of the organization in order to continuously enhance and grow the site. The Editor will be responsible for the day-to-day content management activities and site operations including content updates, as well as monitoring functionality, usability, editorial quality, and governance to support the organizational and editorial plan for AAP.org. In addition, this position will work closely with other AAP staff on developing and posting new and revised content to the site that is relevant, timely, and compelling to various audiences and ensuring that it adheres to best practices for SEO (including proper use of keywords, metadata, and taxonomies). Other primary duties will include managing the site content management system including content architecture, navigation, workflows, team sites, blogs and search functionalities: as well as implementing the integration of organizational assets, micro-Web sites, intellectual property, and editorial content into a comprehensive Web platform for AAP.org.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or communications, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. Three to five years experience maintaining website content and functionality required, including developing, writing, and editing content, ensuring adherence to website style guidelines; and monitoring and analyzing site traffic, preferably with an emphasis on clinical health information/medical education. Experience in the development or execution of business strategies and plans for digital assets preferred. Familiarity with electronic publishing processes and technologies, and experience collaborating with authors and medical professionals highly desirable. Excellent writing, organizational, communication, project management, and interpersonal skills essential. Proficiency with MS Office, Content Management Systems (such as SharePoint), Web applications, and Internet technologies. Must be detail oriented, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and familiar with medical terminology. Some travel and weekend work may be required.
