Technical Writer – Pearson

The Technical Writer, based in Rancho Cordova, California, supports PowerSchool Compliance (State Reporting) and is responsible for finalizing state-specific compliance documentation that has been submitted for software release by Compliance Product Managers and others within the PowerSchool Compliance team.

With direction from the School Systems’ Technical Writing Manager and supervision from the PowerSchool Senior Technical Writer-Lead, the Technical Writer:

  • reviews, edits, and finalizes submitted documentation using established processes and guidelines
  • supports the PowerSchool Compliance team by developing new templates, maintaining existing templates, and updating user guides as directed (as available)
  • performs other duties as assigned

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities/duties, specific to products for which this position provides Technical Writing support are to be performed with direction from the School Systems’ Technical Writing Manager and supervision from the PowerSchool Senior Technical Writer-Lead. Those responsibilities/duties include:

  • research, develop, review, and maintain technical documentation products
  • write technical documentation products to applicable standards (MSTP, Chicago Manual of Style, PowerSchool product-specific exceptions)
  • contribute to team reviews of existing styles and standards

The Technical Writer is part of the team that has the following measurements of success:

  • meet all commitments (current and follow-on) for the assigned programs
  • commit to quality in all aspects of development and product delivery
  • improve the performance of the team to provide a higher level of service at lower cost

Experience/Qualifications

  • two or more years of technical writing/editing experience
  • familiarity with industry-standard style guides, such as MSTP and The Chicago Manual of Style
  • intermediate to expert level user of the MS Office Suite * demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • command of English grammar and usage
  • knowledge of the software development process
  • ability to work under pressure and meet rigid deadlines with fast turnaround times
  • ability to work with other groups
  • ability to work in a multitasking environment
  • ability to function as a team player, learning from team members and following team standards
  • ability to establish and maintain cooperative and positive work relationships
  • Bachelor’s degree in English or related field or equivalent technical writing experience #LI-MC!
