The deadline to enroll for the inaugural academy is Nov. 1.
After almost two years of brainstorming and planning, the American Society of Business Publication Editors is delighted to present ASBPE’s inaugural B2B Editorial Leadership Academy next month in New York. Thank you to ASBPE members, friends and publisher partners for your dedication in making our first certificate training program a reality.
More than 1,800 ASBPE members continue to lead the way in attaining editorial excellence within one of the most vital sectors of American journalism – the business-to-business publications. In pursuit of that goal, it was our own colleagues who looked around and did not find a reputable program to formalize career-advancement training in B2B. In typically fine ASBPE fashion, a few resourceful members took great initiative and said, “Let’s create one!”
The result is ASBPE’s first-ever certificate regime. The B2B Editorial Leadership Academy is an intensive one-day seminar series unique in the B2B sector. The program debuts on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Euromoney Institutional Investor offices in Midtown Manhattan.
Do you work with a talented colleague who is newly appointed to a management position or soon will be ready to make the leap from reporter, designer or multimedia professional to a supervisory position with greater responsibilities for ensuring your publication’s success? Why not send that person to ASBPE’s leadership academy?
Enrollees will receive timely instruction on what it takes to be a B2B editorial leader from Bloomberg Law’s Rebecca Baker, fresh off her term as national president of the Society of Professional Journalists. JD Solomon, editorial director at Professional Media Group and chairman of ASBPE’s Ethics Committee, will offer practical advice on navigating the latest complex church-and-state issues with advertising sales. Danica Tormohlen, editor-at-large with Trade Show Executive magazine, is ready with special insights to prepare you for involvement as an editorial leader in your company’s successful events planning.
Special appreciation goes to Jennifer Schwartz, senior vice president and group publisher at Access Intelligence, for chairing the planning committee and assembling an elite panel of fellow publishers. Jennifer will lead an exclusive discussion of the current B2B business model, what’s disrupting the industry right now, growth strategies, how you can position your career for managerial success and strategies to preserve a nurturing and diverse work environment for your team. I can now reveal that, as of the end of September, Jennifer has added these top-level publishers to the Nov. 16 conversation: Cindy Carter, president and CEO, FDA News, and Dan Oswald, CEO, Simplify Compliance.
Your host and facilitator for the academy program is Betsy Edgerton, professor of journalism at Columbia College Chicago and a B2B specialist. Additional committee members who helped build this curriculum from the ground up include Mark Tarallo of Security Management magazine and Leah Bickley of Poynter Institute.
The enrollment deadline is Nov. 1, so make sure you act now to reserve your spot. To view the full lineup, please click here and register now.
Additional thanks go to recently retired ASBPE national board member Mark Schlack, who spearheaded the certificate program, and to the entire ASBPE board and staff for all their clever ideas and hard work to ensure that our first B2B Editorial Leadership Academy certificate will be a must-have credential for the next generation of achievers.
