2021 ASBPE Conference Leadership Series

ASBPE’s 2021 National Conference is a month-long online event, which will feature publishing leaders who are charting a new path forward for B2B journalism. Throughout May, ASBPE will host four weekly leadership series presentations and discussion groups. Each presentation will provide 30 minutes for presentation and Q&A followed by 30-minute breakout discussions among attendees. Below are details on each presentation.

Week 1: Balancing the Big Changes from 2020

Time: Wednesday, May 5 at 2 p.m. EDT
The last year has thrown a lot at the world, from the COVID-19 pandemic and related issues, to addressing and navigating social justice, equity, the role of politics and more. Leaders must continue to address these issues within their teams, companies and industries as they unfold. Speaker Rasheeda Childress, associate editor of Associations Now, will guide participants through tips and best practices to manage change.

Week 2: Organizational Change: Focusing on What’s Most Important

Time: Wednesday, May 12 at 2 p.m. EDT
Organizational change was everywhere in the last year, as individuals and teams cycled through layoffs, cutting publication frequency, fewer resources, burnout and adapting to a virtual environment. This week’s speaker, Tony Lee, vice president of editorial for the Society for Human Resource Management, will share insights on how to pivot around these organizational changes while still focusing on staffing and revenue.

Week 3: Aligning Your Staff with Changing Missions

Time: Wednesday, May 19 at 2 p.m. EDT
The past year has required many publications and organizations to shift missions. Maybe your event-forward company switched back to publications, or your team found new sources of revenue that required a new business model. Teresa Anderson, editor in chief of Security Management, takes participants through dealing with these changes, and aligning your staff to understand new missions and develop their business sense.

Change can be a great growth opportunity, and as we look ahead to the second half of 2021 and 2022, leaders must be ready to embrace that change.
