ASBPE crowns CIO.com 2010 Website of the Year; announces winners of Digital Azbees

EcoHomeMagazine.com, HealthcareITNews.com and TechRepublic.com win honorable mentions in Website of the Year competition.

CIO.com home pageASBPE named CIO.com as the 2010 Website of the Year, citing CIO magazine’s online site both for its comprehensive news content, and for an ease of operation that helps business-to-business readers navigate what might otherwise seem an overwhelming amount of information-technology content.

A panel of Web Site of the Year judges selected CIO.com due to its integration of social media reporting, clear organization, and amount of valuable content to visitors. One judge said, “CIO has a great magazine, and an even better Web site.” Another called it an “excellent, comprehensive Web publication.”

CIO.com, part of Framingham, Massachusetts-based IDG Corp., won in the most prestigious category in ASPBE’s Digital Azbee Awards competition. Awarded Honorable Mentions in the category were EcoHomeMagazine.com, HealthcareITNews.com, and TechRepublic.com.

Rounding out the rest of the Top 10 websites in ASBPE’s 2010 contest were Computerworld.com, dvm360.com, ENR.com, HotelNewsNow.com, NetworkWorld.com, and SmartMeetings.com – all of which received high praise from ASBPE judges in the hotly competitive category.

Judges based their decision on reporting, writing, editing and depth of information, along with the organization and navigability of the site. Among other factors considered were the service rendered to readers, user-generated content, and the effective use of rich media capability.

The winners of the 2010 second annual Digital Azbee Awards, honoring the best business-to-business editorial and design for digital content, were announced in a special webinar from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. E.T. on Nov. 17, at which CIO.com editors and other representatives of winning electronic publications discussed their strategies and gave practical information on site operation. The webinar can be accessed by visiting asbpe.org/webinars.

ASBPE judges noted how CIO.com’s navigation bars made it easy to locate blogs, videos and other content categories. They cited its integration of social media into the site, and its mix of industry-related information and overall information of interest, specifically noting a feature on “10 Spooky Halloween Apps.” Said one judge: “If I were in technology, I think this would be at the top of my favorites” because the content is presented “with a great mix of technology and good old fashioned writing.”

Among the Honorable Mentions, EcoHomeMagazine.com was described by judges as having “a spare, clean design, with a short top navigation bar and a small number of vertical sections dedicated to [such articles] as case studies and slideshows. Of TechRepublic.com, judges said that it excites with its mix of how-to coverage, blogs and news, and described its “very rich community-driven center” and “very little fluff” in its content. HealthcareITNews.com was called “straightforward and easy to follow,” with a home page that is especially well designed, with an especially effective use of the Twitter stream, and links to press releases. “I wish more sites had that feature,” one ASBPE judge said of the HealthcareITNews.com press-release feature.
