The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s health, seeks a Copy Editor within our Division of E-Learning. This individual will copy edit content for our self-assessments for Pediatricians and Subspecialists and requires knowledge of AMA Manual of Style.
This role will be responsible for copy editing questions, critiques, front-matter, figure citations, and references using AMA Manual of Style and AAP style; and ready content for peer-review and publishing. This position will schedule freelance copyeditors’ activities, plus assist in confirming originality of submissions. The ability to perform onsite, real-time copyediting peer-review sessions based on committee consensus of volunteer writers is critical.
Qualified applicants will possess a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience. A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a copy editor required, including implementing AMA Manual of Style requirements. Previous medical or journal copy editing experience preferred. Must be detail oriented, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and collaborate effectively with internal and external constituents. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required, as well as proficiency with MS Office and a forward-thinking approach to new processes and digital collaboration. Some weekend work may be required.
