The Assistant Editor is responsible for generating member value through the management of all non-feature content in MPI publications, as well as assisting in the creation of original content for digital publications such as MPI’s blogs and online presence. This position is responsible for the creation of this content, either personally, through cross-departmental contributors or through the management of external freelance writers and photographers. This position is part of the team that ensures MPI has integrated messaging across all of MPI’s other publishing platforms, with the goal of delivering industry-leading educational content.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Proposes, researches, writes and edits original content for MPI’s flagship publication and ancillary publications including supplements and curates the editorial calendar for all non-feature sections of the magazine. This also includes content for digital publications such as blogs and online presence. (55%);
2. Manages freelance writers and photographers and assignments made to internal contributors, which includes reviewing, revising and editing content in preparation for final publication across MPI’s publishing platforms (35%);
3. Develops and maintains relationships with public relations agencies, freelance writers and photographer communities and other industry and non-industry journalists (10%).
